5 simple steps to combat Imposter syndrome

How does Imposter Syndrome affect me?

Imposter Syndrome affects you more than you are aware. It’s the roadblock stopping you from achieving your dreams, making you second-guess yourself & potential while playing the innocent card.

It poses as the voice telling you that you are not enough or need to be perfect, hindering you from taking extraordinary steps to reach your goals. It has made you lose out on so many opportunities to be more!

It's inevitable to be more when you are constantly at war with yourself, especially as an online entrepreneur. You struggle with whether you should send the cold emails, do the cold calls, or whether this or that is perfect enough, and wait for the right time that never comes.

How do I know if I am limited by Imposter Syndrome?

Entrepreneurship is already hard as it is — keeping you on the fence, not knowing what decision will work or for sure what will happen.

Imposter syndrome makes it worse when you don't even believe yourself enough — when you feel like you are an empty head when in reality you're a smart aleck. This alone can outrightly limit your output and hinder you from reaching your potential.

It's not a physical disease like Covid or cold that you can literally see the effects on you. It's more like an emotional/mental sickness that eats away your success without you knowing it!! And because you really can't see it or feel the immediate physical symptoms — it is hard to estimate accurately the hurt and losses it has suffered you.

Imposter syndrome affects the best of us and I believe you and everyone else has gone through it just as you have felt fear cripple you sometimes. It also affects us at different stages, not like a one-off situation, so you need to internalize these steps to help you fight Imposter syndrome at every stage of your growth!

Imposter syndrome Vs Reality

So, you have an explicit shoot on-site order for this deadly enemy.

How do I deal with Imposter Syndrome?

Here are 5 steps to win the war against ‘The Silent Vision Killer’

Step 1: Celebrate little wins
Step 2: Share your knowledge
Step 3: See the possibility & that it exists for you
Step 4: Go out & do those impossible things
Step 5: Be Outstanding

STEP 1
Celebrate your wins

Those wins you’ve had before or steps that you count as little, celebrate them!! It’s a great milestone for you to reach the next.

Never write it off!
When you celebrate your little wins, you open the door for more incredible wins! It’s the little steps that launch you to greater heights.
Never neglect it!
It could be hitting 100 followers, starting your blog, etc. It all counts, no matter how little!

STEP 2
Share your Knowledge

This has held me back for the longest time. I was waiting to hit ‘the mark’ before I shared my experiences until I started then I realized that when I share my experiences I inspire and help others actualize their potential.

You’re light, stop dimming your light!
Let it out to shine & you inspire others to do the same.

STEP 3
See the possibility and that it exists for you too

If you have seen others winning, you will win too! You have to believe it for yourself and take action.

Here’s a quote used in the popular movie ‘The Spelling Bee’ acted by the award-winning Keke Palmer

Quote

Doubting yourself is like crawling like a snail when you are meant to soar like an Eagle. Stop comparing yourself with people and embrace your authenticity and only then can you thrive. What worked for Elna may not work for you! Quit trying to be the shadow of others and step out to be yourself!

You can overcome this self-doubt by telling yourself every day that you deserve it!

  • Crafting an affirmation card and say it to yourself every day
  • Creating a vision board

Vision Board (Canva)

STEP 4
Go out and do it!

Go out and do those things that you doubt yourself about! Go send that cold pitch, that application. Join that competition or challenge. Go do it, whatever it is!

STEP 5
Be outstanding

Don’t let yourself be mediocre to your vision. Don’t just do it, decide to be the best at it!
Constantly & consistently improve yourself by being better than you were yesterday. Don’t try to be better than someone else!
The only valid competition you have is you! You against you!

Stop seeking perfectionism! you don’t have the ability to be perfect! you can only choose to be excellent! Start!! then improve as you grow!!

I hope this helped.

Cheers, and see you next time.
